The next 2 games held some of the top players in the entire world. Lionel Messi of Barcelona, and Christiano Ronaldo of Juventus, have been going back and forth for best player in the entire world for the past 10 years. Sadly, what many fans would have hoped, they didn’t play one another in this round, but both showcased unbelievable performances.

Match 3: Manchester United vs Barcelona

Manchester United has been in a slump as of late. Many errors from their spaniard goalkeeper, David De Gea, and what seems to be an unfocused side, hasn’t preformed as well as they have in the past. They used to be known as a powerhouse in the world of football but that has changed as of late. Barcelona is a top team year after year around the world, beating the so called “best” teams, with only minor difficulties. But once they reach the last stages of the Champions league every year, their talent seems to fade.

The first game was held in Manchester, where an early own goal suffered by Manchester United would be the only goal on the score line but that would not define how the game truly went. Even though Barcelona only came away with a 1-0 victory, they had 66% possession of the ball in the game. They also did not allow a single shot on target on them, forcing their German goalkeeper Marc Andre Ter Stegan, to not have to make a single save.

The second leg fixture would be a route for Barcelona. A 3-0 victory with 2 goals in 4 minutes for Lionel Messi, along with Barcelona maintaining 66% possession again. This moved Barcelona onto the semi-finals, where they will be facing Liverpool.

Match 4: Juventus vs Ajax

This was the most interesting and unusual matchup of them all. Juventus just acquired the best player in the entire world, Portuguese forward Christiano Ronaldo, from his former team, Real Madrid. Juventus had already won their Italian soccer league 6 years in a row, but now have him by their side. Ajax on the other hand have the youngest team in the whole competition. They’re a consistent team from the Netherlands who really only play tough competition this time of year, but fans of soccer have been left stunned as they have somehow managed to reach this stage.

As for their first meeting in the Netherlands, with Ajax fans crowding a large majority of the stadium, the match would be much in favor for the. With 61% ball possession and 6 shots on target versus Juventus’s 1, Ajax seemed to be co trolling the game. After a 1-0 lead, none other than Cristiano Ronaldo would score a late goal, securing the draw for Juventus.

In the second leg, despite an early goal by Cristiano Ronaldo, Ajax would ultimately score twice to advance to the next round, facing the Tottenham, who will not have Harry Kane due to an injury suffered in a league match.
